His Holiness Jagadguru Late Sri Mallikarjuna Murugharajendra Mahaswamiji, became the head of the Math in the year 1964. Sri Swamiji being a profound scholar in Sanskrit, Philosophy and Literature of Shiva Sharanas took initiative to start an educational society in the name of S.J.M. Vidyapeetha in the year 1966. This Vidyapeetha was to provide educational and employment opportunity to the students and educated people  from all  parts of Karnataka and the country. This S.J.M. Vidyapeetha has now grown into a big institution with the co-operation of the disciples of the Math in particular and citizens of Karnataka in general. As on today there are 132 educational institutions which include First Grade Colleges(08), Pharmacy College(01), Medical College & Hospital(01), Engineering College(01), Dental College and Hospital(01), Polytechnics(03) and  High Schools, Primary Schools and Pre Primary Schools.

Vision and Mission of  S.J.M. Vidyapeetha(R)

The vision of Vidyapeetha is to establish educational institutions to impart need based and value based  education with an intention to produce dedicated world class leaders, build a strong society based on the principles of spiritual personalities of Sharanas of 12th Century AD by  removing the inequalities of all sorts and generate worthy citizens for the peaceful co-existence  of people at national and global level.

The mission is to organize and manage various schools, colleges and hostels to train younger generation to take up vocational education for their development and offer the best man power to the needs of the country's progress. Mere imparting the knowledge and skill is no longer a goal of an educational institution unless it is found on moral and spiritual foundation. Hence, besides empowering the youth with professional knowledge and skill, it is aimed at empowering them with social, cultural and spiritual values to enable them to lead and build a peaceful community living.

Sri Shivamurthy Murugharajendra Sharanaru is the present pontiff of the Math. His sober, sincere and spiritual attitudes and aptitudes attracted the attention of Sri Mallikarjuna Murugharajendra Swamiji, who declared him as his successor.

Sri Swamiji set compassion and co-existence as two missions for the Math. Sharanas culture was considered as the only ideals for life. Propagation of Basava Philosophy and its execution in day to day life were the programs he designed for the Math and disciples. for their careful implementation he organised the interested people and motivated them with required training. Fostered Basava Kendras in villages. towns and cities gave them monthly and annual program for implementation. Traveled over the length and breadth of countries and continents. Welcomed the scholars, social workers and political leaders to Math and honoured them to motivate others. Created literary and cultural foundations for providing necessary infrastructure to convert his dreams into reality.
